On June 5, 2007, Matt Deveney passed away from GIST, a rare form of cancer. Matt was a kind and gentle soul, and we miss him every day. In honor of our dear friend and bandmate, Playin’ Dead will perform acoustic and electric sets on the banks of the Charles River at The Museum of Science outdoor Washburn Pavilion in Boston, MA, on Saturday, June 7th, from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The family suggests a $100 donation to the Matt Deveney Memorial Fund; all proceeds from the event will go directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to fund research into GIST. The event includes a barbecue buffet, parking, day passes to the museums and a raffle and silent auction that includes Red Sox tickets. For tickets, or other information, please email Matt’s sister Elizabeth at elizabeth.deveney@gmail.com Some new additions to the raffle and silent auction: Almost two dozen Red Sox tickets, signed Jonathon Papelbon baseball, free beer for a year from Sam Adams, $200 gift certificate to J Crew, six $50 gift certificates to Back Bay Restaurants (Abe & Louie's, Joe's, etc.), Bruins tickets, gift cards for gas, CVS, Staples, etc. The family knows Matt would want all of his Deadhead friends to be there, so if $100 is an unrealistic amount, just contact Elizabeth, give what you can, and enjoy the music. Click here for a printable reply form. You CAN come to the door the day of the show, give whatever you can and come on in, as long as it's not sold out. We hope you can join us and we know Matt will be listening.
